For international requests, please send the following documents together with the appropriate samples. This ensures that we can immediately initiate the requested analysis.

According to the German Genetic Diagnostics Act (Gendiagnostikgesetz, GenDG), we are not allowed to initiate genetic testing without the patient’s written informed consent.

Submission of Samples
Specimens
Molecular genetics and molecular cytogenetics
- EDTA blood
(7 ml; for newborns and infants 1 ml, please contact us) - DNA
(min. 2 µg; concentration >50 ng/µl)
Prenatal karyotyping
- Amniotic fluid (10 – 15 ml)
- Chorionic villi (15 – 20 mg)
Postnatal karyotyping
- Heparin blood
(lithium-heparin, about 7 – 10 ml;
for newborns and infants 2 – 3 ml, please contact us) - Skin biopsy/tissue sample (about 1 qcm) in special transport medium or sterile saline solution
Please ensure that the samples are clearly and legibly labeled with the patient’s name and date of birth and the date of sample collection.
Patients need not be prepared for blood collection in any specific manner. Fasting is not required and blood sampling can take place at any time of day.
Transport of samples
Blood and DNA samples can be shipped at room temperature. For international requests and prenatal samples, we recommend to use a courier service.

Turnaround time
Molecular genetics and molecular cytogenetics
- 4 to 6 weeks
Postnatal karyotyping
- on lymphocytes: 1 to 2 weeks
- on skin/tissue samples: about 4 weeks
Prenatal karyotyping
- on amniotic fluid cells: FISH test 1 to 2 days, karyotyping 9 to 14 days
- on chorionic villi: short-time culture 24 h, long-term culture about 14 days
